Summer Feeding

UTICA, N.Y. -- Families across Oneida, Herkimer and Madison counties will have more ways to access free meals for children this summer. The Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES Food Service Program announced it will operate its Summer Food Service Program at 28 locations, with new options to fit different family needs. The program will expand its 7-Day Meal Bundle pickup to four sites in Brookfield, Frankfort, Herkimer and Mohawk. Last year, the pilot at Herkimer High School served more than 36,000 meals, according to OHM BOCES. With grant support from No Kid Hungry, OHM BOCES plans to distribute more than 100,000 meals through these bundle sites this summer, up from 91,651 meals served across all programs last year. The 7-Day Meal Bundle lets families pick up a week’s worth of shelf-stable breakfasts and lunches at once, instead of eating on-site. This model is designed to help families who have transportation challenges or busy schedules. This summer’s program will include 18 traditional congregate meal sites, six hybrid sites and the four expanded meal bundle locations.
